Exhibition stand design: from concept to delivery

The secret to great exhibition design is down to the initial collaboration between client and the creative team who’s task it is to find the best solution to the outlined brief. An exhibition stand should obviously look fantastic and should visually represent all of the qualities and propositions of the exhibiting company however there are many other other essential elements that constitute a successful exhibition solution.

Take a look at our exhibition stand design portfolio to see more of our work.

Key questions about exhibition stand design:

Is it possible to produce excellent exhibition stands within a budget?

In some respects the the number one requirement is affordability as exhibition design and build can be a very costly exercise and there is no advantage in proposing overly ambitious designs that do not match your financial allowance for the project.

Your budget allocation has to be realistic for what you want to achieve. The size of the stand space that is reserved, the quality of the build, the technological requirements and the geographic location will all have an impact on the budget. We believe in transparency and doing the best for our clients, so it is essential that open and honest discussions take place before the design process proceeds in order to develop the best solution.

Amazing designs and builds can be delivered economically and impact can be achieved in the simplest and most cost effective way however budget transparency is essential at the start of the project in order to ensure that the best solution is provided for you.

Is the layout practical?

A 3D design can look amazing and will hopefully convince you that you want to proceed to the next stage of production, however initial design visualisations do not take into account how the exhibition stand will work when the space is filled with staff and even more so – customers.

We recognise the importance of considering the day to day realities of how the space will work over the duration of the show. We will raise and consider such potential issues as:

  • Are there any blind spots?
  • Ease of customer interaction
  • Will there be enough areas to meet and talk comfortably?
  • Will storage be adequate and will the stand be durable throughout the event?

Will the exhibition stand convey your most important messages?

We can sometimes assume that the contacts we meet at shows will instantly recognise and be familiar with our services and propositions but the truth is that a vast number of visitors may not know who you are or be familiar with your services or products.

Good exhibition design should address this fact and make quick impressions that convey your key messages to the unknown audience. Some customers may wish to create intrigue and say less and this also has its merits however this will only work for certain brands and this should always be a key consideration when starting the design process.

Can the stand be re-used in different configurations?

When a brief is received it is essential to consider the potential re-use off the exhibition stand following on from the initial event. It is very easy to store the constructed structure and to re-install and future events however if the stand spaces are significantly different in size and shape then a more modular solution would be required in order to adapt and provide the flexibility of re-installation that is required.

If multiple exhibition installations are required then the advise we would make would be to allow for a bigger budget for the initial design and build as this would enable the provided stand structure to have greater flexibility going forward and would subsequently provide greater cost savings as the stand would not need to be adapted to fit differing stand spaces.

Will the design be noticed from a far?

All venues are slightly different with some halls having greater space between exhibitors and greater height opportunities whilst some venues maybe more intimate and congested.

It is essential to consider the opportunities provided by the height and the possibility of being identified from a far as customers may have limited time and identifying your stand can be a frustrating experience if hidden behind competitors with higher stand structures.

That said suspension of overhead branding can be an extremely expensive operation depending on the venue and it is therefore essential to consider the advantages and disadvantages of this branding element and as experts in this field the Ice Agency would be delighted to evaluate and to offer guidance on this requirement for your consideration.

Should the design be real or virtual?

In the changing world of face to face events one must always consider the best and most appropriate solution for your ultimate display requirement. Providing a virtual design solution within a virtual exhibition platform will allow you present your company / brands effortlessly to a worldwide audience in a stylistic manner that would mirror the approach that you would adopt for face to face activity.

Should the best approach be a virtual solution then The Ice Agency would approach the project with the same precision and detail as we would with an actual exhibition stand build making sure that the end customer receives the same experience and information that would be required and to ultimately achieving the same results and interactions that would be the objective of any live or virtual event experience.
